The Fine Art of Keeping a Secret

During a destination wedding, a hyper-imaginative artist has to deal with family dysfunction, office demands, love’s contradictions, and the crushing weight of mortality while keeping everything—and everyone—afloat.

Budget €2.4m

€20k script development funding

€44k artistic development funding

Director / Screenwriter

The film’s innovative visual language brings Cameron’s fractured psyche to life through animated sequences—vibrant, street-art-inspired interludes that contrast his rich inner world with his deteriorating reality.

These aren’t mere stylistic flourishes but urgent transmissions from a dying artist’s mind, revealing the beautiful, terrible, and darkly comic thoughts he cannot voice.

What emerges is a story about the fine art of letting go—of control, of protecting others at our own expense, and of the illusion that love means shielding those we care about from life’s most brutal truths. When Cameron finally speaks his truth, it’s not the gentle revelation he planned but a raw, unfiltered explosion that leaves devastation in its wake. Yet from this destruction comes something unexpected: the possibility of genuine intimacy in whatever time remains.

Exit

Writer / Director · 2016

An exercise in subtext and speed: written, shot and edited in two weeks. Hidde Simons and Thomas Wander give excellent performances, digging into everything left unsaid in what looks, at first glance, like a casual conversation.

Sede de Fúria

Writer / Director

Sede de Fúria started with a bet. When someone heard about the plans for EXIT, they challenged Wiebe to shoot a film during his three-day visit to São Paulo.

He had two months to pull it off. He wrote a script about extreme confessions, found a production company willing to help (Trust Filmes) and discovered two great actors, Isabella Lemos and Guilherme Chelucci.

The film was shot in a single night, in a language he didn’t speak, with a fantastic crew he’d met only hours before.

Éénnachtsliefde

Writer / Director · 2015

A duet in dialogue: two characters trying to impress each other with wit and secrets. Gaite Jansen and Wieger Windhorst took it to the next level.

It premiered at the Cannes Short Film Corner in 2015 and caught the eye of a Japanese film fanatic, leading to a screening of all of Wiebe’s short films to date in Tokyo in 2017.

Vox Scripta

Writer / Director · 2011

A fairy tale about a young illiterate librarian who discovers his gift for storytelling while falling in love, complete with dream sequences of swimming through the library, made on a budget of €1,200.

It won Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor (Jim Deddes) at the Lezen & Schrijven Film Awards, a competition for films about illiteracy within the Netherlands Film Festival.
